San Cisco @ The Standard

San Cisco - Indie/Pop Band from Perth , played a small sold out gig at The Standard in Surrey Hills Wed 9th May. Supported by Voltaire and The Griswolds. The 4 piece band composing of Jordi (lead singer), Gorgeous Scarlett (Drummer/Vocals), Josh (Guitar/Vocals) and Nick (Base Guitar/Vocals) wooed the crowds with their catchy numbers.

Their first single  released Awkward, was written in the studio one afternoon and features the vocals of drummer Scarlett Stevens. Awkward is a catchy singing 'chat' between Scarlett and Jordi – about unrequited love, all fictional, of course!

The highlight songs for me were Rocket Ship and Reckless, they’re catchy and easy listening – two-chords, tight rolling drums, chorus sing-a-longs and little room for filler. Seemed slightly Kooky/Bright Eyes.

As a live unit however, their ages still come out, at the young ages of 18 and 19 just out of school they seem yet to match the spit and polish of their records. Their stage presence is there and they seem to have the odd chat with the crowd although very heard to hear Scarletts imput last night, they didnt look nervous but they definately kept it safe, with the odd giggle and wink between them on stage!

Their set incluided Girls Do Cry, John's song which Jordie sang Accoustic, Lover, Awkward, Rocket Ship, Reckless and Arctic Monkeys cover 505.

Definately worth a listen on YouTube now that Awkward has reached the Top 10 of the Hottest 100 list. I imagine many more catchy Indie Pop tunes to come from this young Quartet!
